Faux Fur Dog Snood Crochet Pattern

Faux Fur Dog Snood

Introduction

This snuggly, faux fur dog snood is a beginner-friendly crochet hat that works up quickly and will keep your pup warm all winter long.  The ribbing around the bottom edge provides maximum stretch, so your dog can easily and comfortably wear it.  The faux fur yarn creates a cozy, thick hood that will keep your pet’s head and ears safe from the snowy weather.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me on Ravelry.  Happy crocheting!

Pattern

Neck Ribbing

Step 1: Leave a long tail to use later to seam up your snood.  With a 5mm crochet hook, Ch 9 (9, 10, 10, 11, 11).

Step 2: In the 2nd Ch from your hook, Sl St in the back bump (8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10).

Step 3: Sl St in the BLO across the row (8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10).

Step 4: Repeat the previous step 50 (63, 76, 89, 102, 115) more times (See below image) (8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10).

Step 5: Switch to your 2nd color, Ch 1 and Sc along the top of the ribbing.  You should be able to nicely fit 27 (34, 40, 47, 53, 60) Sts across the top by Scing between each rib.  At the end of the row, switch to your 3rd color, Ch 1 and turn (27, 34, 40, 47, 53, 60).

Step 6: Sc across the row (27, 34, 40, 47, 53, 60).

Step 7: Repeat Step 6. At the end of the row, switch to the faux fur yarn and a 9mm hook.  Ch 1 and turn (27, 34, 40, 47, 53, 60).

Hood

Step 8: Alternate, Sc into every other St across the row.  If you reach the end of your row and have one St left, Sc into the last St as well. Tip: This will happen for the XS, S and XL sizes. Ch 1 and turn (14, 18, 21, 24, 27, 31).

Step 9: Sc across the row 8 (10, 12, 14, 16, 18) more times or until the desired size of the hood has been reached  (14, 18, 21, 24, 27, 31).

Step 10: Sl St and tie off, leaving a long tail to seam up the top of the hood.

Finishing

Step 11: Fold the project in half and seam up the ribbing and top of the hood with your remaining long tails. Weave in ends.

  1. I made this for my 3 pound chihuahua today. I’m dying of happiness!! It’s so darn cute on her! I may have to remake it in a lighter fluffy yarn though. It’s a little heavy for her tiny neck to hold up…or she’s just protesting 🤣🐶❤️
    Thanks for a fabulous pattern!
