About
Hello!
I’m Taryn and thanks for visiting my website! I’m originally from Pennsylvania, but since 2015, I’ve lived in Sri Lanka, Vermont, Germany, Portugal and currently call Montréal home. In my bachelor's, I studied literature, political science and professional writing at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. I later completed my master's in literary and cultural studies at Universität Potsdam in Brandenburg, Germany.
Over the last few years, I’ve had the pleasure of traveling to more than 40 countries and, along the way, have interacted with folks from all walks (and with all kinds of reading habits). This section of the CalicoRadio website acts as a growing archive of the books that people have recommended to me, recent trips have inspired, or I’ve always meant to pick up.
A few of my favorite texts (in no particular order):
- Goodbye to Berlin – Christopher Isherwood
- Harlem Gallery – Melvin Tolson
- Howl – Allen Ginsberg
- 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World - Elif Shafak
- "Self-Reliance" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
- When Breath Becomes Air – Paul Kalanithi
- Tender Buttons – Gertrude Stein
- Ragtime - E.L. Doctorow
- Half of a Yellow Sun – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
- Pachinko – Min Jin Lee
